ORLANDO, FL (UroToday.com) - This study out of Sao Paolo, Brazil showed that shock wave therapy (SWT) can actually induce tissue injury to the tunica albuginea to form a Peyronie's plaque in normal tissue. In a rabbit model, 25 animals were subjected to either SWT, protected SWT (via a rubber barrier), or controls; it was clearly shown that significant tissue trauma is induced during this therapy.
