Kyivan Patriarchate Addresses Faithful on Holodomor

Kyiv—On occasion of the marking of the 75th anniversary of the genocide Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate, Patriarch Filaret addressed the faithful. The address, which was passed on 15 November by the Synod of UOC-KP, stressed that “our duty is not only to remember those killed by the famine and destroyed for the freedom of Ukraine – we must become worthy of our ancestors and pass a better country to our descendants through our sacrificial love for the Motherland.”

Kyiv–On 7-8 November, in Kyiv, the Second Convention of the laity of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church titled My Part in the Life of the Parish, Church and State was held. As the result, several addresses were issued: to laity, to parish priests and to the Synod of Bishops of UGCC. The documents include also an address to all people of good will regarding the causes and ways out of the social-political crisis in Ukraine titled “On the need to renew the political process.”

Kyiv—Ukraine’s President sent letters to the Vatican and Istanbul asking the Roman Pope and Universal Patriarch to remember in prayers the innocent victims of the Great Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. So reported the presidential press service on 17 November, 2008.
