On this spring day, a renowned dinosaur hunter is visiting Five Generation Gully, a dusty site near here in Liaoning province, to look at some newly discovered bones. He recognizes that what appear to be lumps of stone jutting from a rock formation are actually the remains of a 49-foot, long-necked, plant-eating Sauropod from 120 million years ago. All in a day's work for Xu Xing, China's real-life Indiana Jones. In a country that has taken center stage in the world of paleontology, Xu is a star.

Bernard Lagat flashed his 2007 gold medal form in winning the two-mile Sunday at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore., where the Olympic track trials will be held June 27-July 6. Lagat, who won the 1,500 meters and 5,000 at last year's world championships, took the lead with about 100 meters left to win in 8 minutes, 12.45 seconds as Bahrain's Rashid Ramzi, a former 800 and 1,500 world champ, was second (8:13.16).
