Snip from an item on Wikileaks: Chip company NXP Semiconductors is to sue Radboud University in an attempt to halt the publication of a paper detailing the cryptographic cracking of the Oyster smartcard, used widely on the London transport network. The case is to be heard on Thursday in a court in Arnheim, NXP told ZDNet.co.uk on Tuesday. However, an NXP spokesperson declined to give any reasons at present for the company seeking to halt the publication. Researchers from the Radboud University in Nijmegen last month claimed to have cracked the security on the Oyster card, which uses an NXP chipset called Mifare Classic. The research had led on from a cryptographic crack of Mifare Classic by German researchers Karsten Nohl and Henryk Pltz. A spokesperson for Radboud University told ZDNet.co.uk that NXP wanted to stop publication of the paper due to "safety reasons". However, the spokesperson said that the university intended to proceed with the publication of the research at the Esorics conference in Malaga in October. The court is expected to reach a decision next week. Well, it does appear they're leaked. Lawsuit to stop the paper publication isn't going to do a heck of a lot of good now. Forget microeconomics. The currency market these days is trading almost exclusively on two macro themes. One - are Fannie and Freddie about to cause a systemic collapse of the US financial system? Two - is Iran really trying to provoke a military response from Israel? If the answer to either...

This has been exceptionally frustrating with the correction up to 107.42 being much too high within a normal wave development. It does therefore cause me some concern but given the break below 106.24 it does seem to be more in line with an unusual move lower in Wave (c).

It was a sadly familiar tale for the US dollar in Friday's NY session, hammered once again on the back of worries over the government-sponsored mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Capitalism has triumphed everywhere, but it's time to dust off an old socialist slogan. When it comes to housing finance, the commanding heights of the economy must be nationalized. Last night's statement from Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson was designed to look statesmanlike and measured, but it misses an opportunity.

LONDON (Reuters) - The chief executive of Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N), the Pentagon's No. 1 supplier, called the overturn of a $35 billion U.S. Air Force tanker deal involving Europe's EADS a contracting hitch, not a trade issue, and urged Europe to boost its defense spending.

Gordon Banks' 70 years have included some amazing sights, notably the save that brought Pele to a blustery Britannia Stadium on Saturday, though none, surely, as surreal as Archbishop Desmond Tutu patrolling the technical area during a match that doubled as a tribute to the great Stoke City and England goalkeeper and "celebration of sport and peace", writes Phil Shaw.
