Filed under: Handsets, Nokia To be fair, Continental Mobiles' diamond-encrusted Nokia N95 is a real bargain at £10,000 ($19,813) when compared to Amosu's £12,000 alternative, but seriously, real richies should be holding off for the evolutionary N96, anyway. For those with enough cash to care, this particular handset / status symbol packs a Sterling silver front-panel stacked with "4.42ct of brilliant-cut, VS1 quality, color G-H, naturally mined diamonds." If you're craving one, you'd better get your order in now, as it takes the British craftspeople crazy enough to sell these things three full weeks to whip one up.[Via Pocket-lint]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Rogers Wireless, Apple To call customer reaction to Rogers' iPhone 3G pricing plans "lukewarm" would be doing them an enormous favor. The plans -- which start out at $60 for just 150 voice minutes and can't be had with unlimited data at any price -- have spawned a pretty big grassroots effort in the form of an online petition that's managed to collect five figures' worth of signatures so far, and while an online petition won't likely net any results, drawing Apple's ire just might. Rumor has it that Cupertino has diverted a portion of Rogers' allotted launch handsets to Europe, leaving some retail stores in Canada with just 10-20 units for the 11th. It's all hearsay at this point, but honestly, a phone that thrives on data perhaps more than any other getting launched without a single unlimited data plan? Come on now, really.[Via Mac Rumors]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: T-Mobile, MiscAccording to the overactive internet rumor party line, T-Mobile is planning to take its currently limited 3G service nationwide come October. TmoNews claims -- thanks to an anonymous tipster, of course -- that on October 1st, the telco will bring speedy service to 27 of its top markets, including Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, and Miami, amongst others. Of course, right now this is pure speculation and hearsay, until we get confirmation from T-Mobile (or at least some hard evidence), we'll just have to keep our fingers and toes crossed.[Via Boy Genius Report]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: NokiaOnly in the world of corporate law could two entities make amends in one continent while beating each other to a legal pulp in another. After three years of trading lawsuits over a handful of InterDigital patents regarding their applicability to the UMTS standard, Nokia and the firm have agreed to bury the hatchet with a settlement whose terms are undisclosed -- but only in the UK. The battle goes on in the US, where InterDigital still wants the ITC to put the smack down on Nokia's 3G products, which it claims are in violation of its intellectual property. InterDigital's stock got a nice little boost from the ordeal in the Isles, so it's apparently a Good Thing; maybe these guys want to take a seat at the negotiating table stateside, too?[Via Phone Scoop]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

That's almost a full day before any New York, propaganda farmer gets his. In the UK, O2 is now taking pre-orders (one per customer) on a first come, first serve basis. Better yet, your new slab of 3G will be delivered to your home on the 11th of July by courier where you can activate it from the digital comforts of iTunes. So civilized.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]Read -- O2 UKRead -- Vodafone NZPermalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Software, Nokia Nokia has flipped the switch on a new component of its Ovi platform, the aptly-named Files, which allows music, photos, and a variety of miscellaneous files on a Vista or XP-based desktop PC to be accessed straight from your phone. The technology is actually nothing new -- it stems from Nokia's acquisition of Avvenu, which powered the similarly styled Motorola SHARE -- so it's really only the re-launch on Ovi that's making news. Unlike some other Ovi components, you'll have to pay to play with Files; subscriptions will be available with 10GB or 30GB of storage, which allows "Anytime Files" to be uploaded and offered even when the PC's off. Right now, the only option is to sign up for a 60-day free trial, but Nokia will eventually be making the rounds to get your credit card information.[Via MobileBurn]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
