Wayne Oehmke has been named the new president of the Chamber of Commerce for Sterling Heights, Utica and Shelby Township. Oehmke was publisher of the Daily Tribune Newspaper in Royal Oak before taking this position with the chamber. Oehmke takes the helm of the second-largest chamber of commerce in southeastern Michigan and one of the top chambers in the state with a membership close to 2,000. He replaces retiring Lil Adams, who held the chamber's leadership position for the past 32 years.

Starbucks Corp. said Tuesday it will close 600 company-operated stores in the next year, up dramatically from its previous plan for 100 closures, a sign the coffee shop operator is still feeling the pain from the faltering U.S. economy.

TriMas Corp. announced that Brian McGuire has been appointed president of Monogram Aerospace Fasteners, effective immediately. McGuire, who most recently held the role of president of the Norris Cylinder business, will assume the overall business responsibility for Monogram Aerospace Fasteners. The Free Press is a recipient of the 2008 Gerald Loeb Award.
