Retail sales down in March

The volume of retail sales excluding price effects decreased by 2.1% in March compared to the same month last year, the Central Statistics Office said today.

The value of retail sales increased by 1.4% in March this year compared to March 2007

February 2008 is the latest month for which final detailed figures are available.

The three-month December 2007 - February 2008 volume figures show that, compared with the three months ending November 2007, the largest increase in the volume of sales was in the department store sector, which was up 4.9%.
